What a cold week we have had!  I do get a few questions every year about the temperature and how cold it needs to be before we keep the kids inside.  As a rule, if the temperature falls below -24C with the windchill, we keep the kids in. If the conditions are not great for play (e.g. icy, very windy etc..) we may also consider keeping the kids in.  I do believe that the kids should be outside playing as much as we can allow for and I know that the kids love to be outside. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to send me a note.  I have a few notes and reminders as we head to the end of this shortened week:

1. Many of you will be visiting the school for interviews this evening and on Friday morning.  While you are here, please come check out (1) the Lost and Found - we have items on display in the foyer and (2) visit the last day of the Fall Scholastic Book Fair from 8:30am-12:00pm on Friday.

2. The Mommy’s Yummies menu has been updated.  To see the new menu go to

3. Our hardworking school council has a movie night planned for Friday, November 30th.  For details, go to

4. Our friends at the City of Ottawa are looking for a few community members to volunteer some time to maintain/supervise the South Nepean outdoor rink at Ken Ross park. (near Mother Teresa High School). Our students use this rink for the skating program. Details are below.

The general duties are as follows:

-          Establish an ice surface within 10 days of being directed to do so by the City (usually around December 15th, weather permitting)

-          Ongoing maintenance of the rink including:

-          Removal of snow within 12 hours of minor snowfalls and 24 hours of major snowfalls

-          Flooding of rink 4 times/week as weather permits, outside of regular operating hours

-          Maintaining an emergency access route to the rink from the street

-          Reporting of hazards, injuries and incidents to the City

-          Minimum 30 hours/week of supervision spread across 6 days

-          Ensure the rink is supervised by a responsible adult aged 16 years or older

-          Make changing facility available to the public during operating hours

-          Record attendance statistics hourly

-          Have a first aid kit on site during operating hours

A small grant is available to assist volunteers with this endeavor.

If you are able to assist us with promoting this opportunity, it would be greatly appreciated.
